1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Edition: The Last Great Street-Legal Two-Stroke

“For serious collectors of vintage and classic motorcycles, the 1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Edition is more than just a high-performance middleweight—it’s a cornerstone of two-stroke history. Clad in its unmistakable yellow and black “speed block” livery with Kenny Roberts’ signature emblazoned on the fairing, this U.S.-only model represents the final chapter of Yamaha’s legendary two-stroke streetbike lineage.

At the heart of the RZ350 is a 347cc liquid-cooled, two-stroke parallel twin producing around 50 horsepower. Lightweight at just 371 pounds dry, it delivers explosive acceleration and nimble, responsive handling. What sets the RZ350 apart from its RD predecessors is the innovative Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS), a breakthrough in two-stroke technology. YPVS adjusts exhaust port timing dynamically, giving the RZ tractable torque down low and a thrilling top-end rush—making it equally at home on twisty back roads and race circuits.

The Kenny Roberts Edition also features performance-focused hardware: a six-speed transmission, monoshock rear suspension, 32mm front forks, and dual 267mm front disc brakes. The steel perimeter frame adds rigidity without compromising agility. It was also one of the first U.S. motorcycles to include a catalytic converter, introduced to meet tightening emissions standards—ironically, the very reason two-strokes would soon disappear from American roads.

Only available in the U.S. market and for a limited time, the 1984 yellow-and-black RZ350 stands today as a collector’s prize. Its blend of GP-inspired styling, innovative engineering, and raw two-stroke energy captures a moment in time that will never return. For collectors seeking a true piece of Yamaha’s performance legacy, the Kenny Roberts RZ350 remains one of the most iconic and desirable machines of the 1980s.”

Showing 19,609 miles, this 1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Edition is a clean, largely original example featuring a full Toomey Racing exhaust. The tank and front fairing have been repainted; the rear fairing is original with minor blemishes. Rubber and plastics are in good condition, and the bike shows light, honest wear, including some aluminum corrosion on the front master cylinder. The dash and tank are clean, and the bike has been garage-kept in a collection, though it’s been sitting for two years. A well-preserved, rider-ready RZ350 with great curb appeal and classic two-stroke charm.
